Captain Vikram Batra was an officer in the Indian Army. He attained Veergati while fighting valiantly in the 1999 Kargil War, at that time his age was only 24 years. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award, for his unprecedented contribution to the Indian Army.

Vikram Batra was born on 9 September 1974 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. His father was the principal of Girdhari Lal Batra Government School and his mother was a school teacher. Vikram Batra was the third child of his parents. She was born 14 minutes before her twin brother Vishal. After that, both the twin brothers got nicknames Luv (Vikram) and Kush (Vishal). Apart from this, Vikram also has two sisters Seema and Nutan (Neetu).
Vikram’s mother was a teacher himself, so he got his primary education from him, after that he got secondary education from DAV Public School in Palampur and completed his senior secondary education at Kendriya Vidyalaya. Apart from being good at studies, Vikram was also a prolific sportsperson. He represented his school at the Youth Parliamentary Competition, Delhi at the national level. Vikram had represented his school and college in many sports like table tennis, karate. In 1990, Vikram and his twin brother Vishal represented their school in the KVS National Competition of Table Tennis. Vikram was a Green Belt Holder in Karate.

After graduating in Medical Science, Vikram cleared the CDS exam in 1996 and got a call for an interview from SSB, Allahabad, which he passed. He had 35th rank. After that, he got selected in the Indian Army. In the year 1996, he joined the Indian Military Academy located in Dehradun for training. After the completion of his training in December, he was appointed as a lieutenant in the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles of the Army on 6 December 1997 at a place called Sopore in Jammu. Vikram took commando training in 1999 along with other training. On 1 June 1999, his contingent was sent to the Kargil War, where Vikram was made Captain after winning Hump and Raki Nab places.
